Emergency Preparedness: Have a Plan

September is National Preparedness Month. Disasters disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Each one has lasting effects, both to people and property. The following was published in regard to the three major hurricanes that were hitting the U.S. coasts, one right after the other:

What can you do? Have a plan. Regardless of whether or not the hurricane Jose impacts the east coast, a plan for inclement weather should always be in place and be ready to go at a moment’s notice.

  • Keep aware of risks that might be posted in your area.
  • If you are not under mandatory evacuation orders and opt to stay in your home to ride out the storm, be prepared and stock up on supplies should you be unable to leave the house for several days or should your electricity be off for periods of time.

Remember…

  • As Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have demonstrated in recent weeks — despite all of the barriers designed and perceived to keep them apart — Americans always seem to come together in support of one another in times of need and distress.

National Preparedness Month serves as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare, not only during the month of September, but throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us. One important way to prepare is to have a good supply of food on-hand. You will have peace of mind that your and your family will be taken care of.

And, as we have seen so many times before, sometimes providing for your family means more than just those living under your roof. Family can be your friends, neighbors, community, fellow Americans, and those living in different parts of the world. If you’re prepared for any emergency, you not only help your own family, you’re in an even better place to help your ‘extended family’.

One of the many benefits of a freeze dryer is that it gives you the capability of preserving things you really like to eat. Not all emergencies involve hurricanes, earthquakes, and other major disasters. So, even if you are temporarily our of work, or, if your emergency is simply that you have surprise guests coming for dinner, you can instantly prepare amazing meals from food that you freeze dried earlier. This includes things such as a complete pot roast dinner, lasagna, or beef stroganoff. Your tastes and imagination are the only limitations.
